While the route from Tbilisi or Batumi to Chokhatauri is straightforward, the final stretch to Bakhmaro can be challenging. Even though the road is paved, it’s often buried under snow in winter. A high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle is essential, and conditions should be checked before departure. Many travelers opt to rent snowmobiles or snowcats for the last leg — a pricier but much safer option, especially if you lack experience driving in snow. Always aim to travel during daylight for maximum safety.
