Mtatsminda and the Funicular

Begin your Tbilisi adventure, the capital of Georgia, founded 1,500 years ago by King Vakhtang Gorgasali. A highlight of the city is the equestrian statue of the King, standing proudly atop Metekhi Cliff with his arm raised in command, overlooking the capital. Mtatsminda and the iconic TV Tower, nicknamed the Spindle, can be spotted from nearly every part of the city.

Ride the funicular up to Mtatsminda Park, a perfect spot for relaxation and family entertainment. Children and teens can enjoy a variety of rides including trampolines, carousels, quadricycles, and a giant Ferris wheel that provides stunning panoramic views of Tbilisi. The park’s restaurant, featuring a spacious veranda with postmodern design, serves delicious local and international cuisine.

Don’t miss the Tbilisi Botanical Garden, home to roses, violets, rare trees, bridges, fountains, and scenic walking paths. The garden offers diverse tours—bike, educational, and children-focused options—making it both an intellectual and adventurous experience. Thrill-seekers can try the zipline or rock-climbing wall, and a museum café offers a delightful lunch break.

Tbilisi has numerous parks suitable for families: Vake Park, Mushtaidi, Mziuri, Deda Ena, Kikvidze, Gldani, Alexander’s Garden, and Expo Georgia. Deda Ena, Mziuri, Gldani, Vake, and Mushtaidi are particularly child-friendly. Mushtaidi Park even features a nearly century-old train running on real tracks—an unforgettable experience for kids.

At Rike Park, take a hot air balloon ride for sweeping city views, reminiscent of Phileas Fogg’s adventures, weather permitting. Tbilisi also has three cable cars connecting various city areas, perfect for sightseeing or reaching river piers for rafts and electric boat tours.

Although Tbilisi isn’t a coastal city, Tbilisi Sea offers a beach, yacht club, and maritime-style entertainment. Families can enjoy a yacht ride on the shimmering water, a unique experience in the city.

The Tbilisi Zoo, nearing its 100th anniversary, houses nearly 200 animal species and features attractions for children. The city also offers cultural experiences such as a working circus, marionette theater, and adolescent theater, all entertaining regardless of language.

Before heading west, explore Kakheti’s Sighnaghi and Telavi. Nadikvari Park in Telavi is ideal for family fun, with clean air, natural beauty, scenic parks, terraces, and recreation areas. Georgia’s rich cultural life also includes music festivals and national celebrations for family enjoyment.

Western Georgia

Western Georgia also offers fantastic family-friendly experiences. In Kutaisi, climb Gabashvili Hill and explore the park, featuring walking paths, rides, and restaurants. The hill offers panoramic views of the city, which can also be enjoyed via the cable car.

Kutaisi’s Botanical Garden is home to unique plants and a tree-carved shrine, and the city’s historic bridges are a must-see. Visit the Kutaisi Puppet Theater and local museums for cultural enrichment.

On the way to Batumi, stop at Shekvetili’s Tsitsinatela Park. This seaside amusement area features go-karts, bowling, rides, musical fountains, and more, ensuring fun for the whole family. Nearby, the Miniature Park presents Georgia’s key monuments in miniature form, offering a quick tour of the country’s highlights. Musicians Park features statues of world-famous artists that play music when approached, adding a magical touch.

The Dendrological Park spans 60 hectares, showcasing endemic Georgian and exotic plants and animals, making it a standout location on the Black Sea coast.

Ajara offers both mountains and the sea for family recreation. Stroll along Batumi Boulevard, rent bikes or quadbikes, or enjoy the vibrant 3D laser fountain show at night. The Park of Wonders and the Ali and Nino statue, symbolizing love, are must-visits. The Astronomical Clock Tower is a fascinating sight, showing the position of the sun, moon, planets, and constellations. A cable car from Batumi to Anuria Mountain provides breathtaking views of the sea and mountains. Don’t forget to try local Adjarian khachapuri and other specialties. Dolphin shows at Batumi Dolphinarium offer close encounters with marine mammals, safe for all ages. Museums, especially ethnographic ones, provide additional family-friendly cultural experiences.

Georgian Resorts

For winter vacations, Bakuriani and Gudauri are ideal for families. Kids can learn skiing or snowboarding, and all equipment is available for rent or purchase on-site.

If snow sports aren’t your preference, hiking and picnicking in Georgia’s scenic spots are equally enjoyable. Both mountain and coastal resorts offer unpolluted environments and kid-friendly infrastructure, making them perfect for relaxing family holidays.
