Salkhino Dadiani Residence: A Historic Retreat in Samegrelo
Salkhino brings together a former Dadiani summer residence, a peaceful garden and a historic wine cellar near Martvili. It is a rewarding stop for travellers interested in Samegrelo's aristocratic past.
A Palace with a Family Story
During the first half of the nineteenth century, Levan Dadiani began replacing a wooden house with a two-storey stone palace. His granddaughter, Salome Dadiani-Murat, later inherited the finished residence. The estate became a setting for noble gatherings, fitting a name associated with feasting and celebration.
Gardens, a Church and Qvevri
Paths beneath old trees lead through the grounds. The complex also includes an eighteenth-century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Dadiani family's wine cellar. Its twelve qvevri carry a religious symbolism connected with the Apostles and major church festivals.
