Nature at Gomismta

From the base of Gomismta, visitors are greeted by the stunning Colchic landscape stretching as far as the eye can see. The resort is blessed with natural mineral springs and is surrounded by lush coniferous forests to the southwest and vibrant alpine meadows to the northeast.

Summers on Gomismta are pleasantly cool, with an average temperature around +16°C, while winters bring heavy snowfall and temperatures dropping to -5°C. Regardless of the season, warm clothing is essential for enjoying this high-altitude retreat.

A World of Clouds and Views

 

Gomismta is often shrouded in clouds, giving the impression of floating above the weather. The unique view from the resort shows a sea of clouds beneath you, with centuries-old tree trunks peeking through. Sunrises and sunsets here are spectacular, with a sun so vivid and round it seems straight out of a painting. On clear days, the Black Sea glimmers in the distance, offering a truly unforgettable panorama.

Healing Powers of Gomismta

Historically, shepherds brought their cattle here during summer months. By 1902, the settlement had only about 20 houses, but even then, locals valued the restorative qualities of the mountain air.

The air in Gomismta is a unique blend of mountain and sea currents, recognized for its therapeutic effects on respiratory conditions such as chronic bronchitis, mild asthma, and even certain forms of tuberculosis, rickets, and other ailments. For this reason, the resort attracts health-conscious visitors, especially between June and September.

Hiking and Camping Adventures

Gomismta is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Nearby attractions include Chinchao Volcanic Lake (12 km), Kintrishi Nature Reserve (20 km), Bakhmaro Resort (25 km), and Meriyakeli Resort (23 km).

Accommodation ranges from cozy wooden cabins to camping under the stars. For many, the chance to sleep outdoors amid pristine mountain air is the highlight of their visit.

Winter in Gomismta

In winter, the resort is transformed into a snowy wonderland, with snow depths reaching up to 3 meters—perfect for winter sports enthusiasts. Access requires a drive followed by a 9–10 km trek through snow-covered terrain. Since there are no permanent residents and trails are unmarked, hiring a guide, consulting locals, and using GPS is highly recommended for safety.
