Georgia’s Natural Beauty

This is Georgia — Ancient and Beautiful

Georgia is one of the world’s oldest nations, blessed with extraordinary beauty and a timeless spirit.

A Land Gifted by God

Legend has it that when God was sharing the lands among nations, the Georgians arrived last. They explained that they had been busy feasting, toasting, and praising God Himself. Amused, God gave them the land He had set aside for Himself. Anyone who sets foot in Georgia soon realizes that this tale feels close to reality.

Here, you can ski down snow-capped peaks and, just a few hours later, swim in the Black Sea. One moment you might be walking through icy rain or mountain snow, and the next, basking in warm sunshine by taking in a perfect tan.

Lakes, Rivers, and Hidden Worlds

Though small in size, Georgia is blessed with 26,060 rivers, 860 lakes, 55 waterfalls, and 44 reservoirs. Beneath its surface lies a treasure of caves — 28 have been explored so far.

  • Prometheus Cave, near Tskaltubo, carries echoes of prehistory.

  • Sataplia Cave preserves something found nowhere else — dinosaur footprints, dating back 120 million years.

  • In New Athos, within Georgia’s occupied region, lies the longest known cave system in the world, a natural wonder carved into Mesozoic limestone.

Forests, Wetlands, and Rich Biodiversity

Nature has sculpted Georgia into a living masterpiece. Among its gems are the Alazani Floodplain Forests and the rare Ispani Wetlands near Kobuleti — pristine, ancient ecosystems that have filtered and sustained life since the 4th century BCE. These wetlands are unique on a global scale, drawing scientists and explorers alike.

Georgia’s wild heart beats in its forests and mountains, home to remarkable biodiversity. From vibrant alpine flowers and endless forests to iconic wildlife — deer, wild boar, and squirrels, alongside predators like bears, wolves, lynxes, and foxes — the country shelters countless species. Many are rare or endangered, protected within the Caucasus and included on the IUCN Red List.

Water, Wellness, and Climate Diversity

With over 2,000 mineral and hot springs, Georgia is a natural spa, rich in therapeutic waters and healing muds. Resorts built around them have attracted visitors for centuries.

Despite its modest size, Georgia contains nearly every climate found on Earth. From the subtropical warmth of the Black Sea coast, through the dry valleys of the east, to the eternal snows and glaciers of the Greater Caucasus — Georgia is like a miniature planet.

Its plant life is equally astonishing. More than 4,100 plant species thrive here, of which around 900 are found nowhere else. The Goderdzi Petrified Forest in Ajara, a preserved miracle from deep time, is just one of many treasures. Grapevines, cereals, and fruits have flourished here for millennia, making Georgia a cradle of agricultural diversity.

A Living Monument

Georgia’s nature is not only a wonder for visitors but also a priceless heritage for humanity. Its landscapes, ecosystems, and biodiversity form a living monument — a legacy that continues to inspire, sustain, and connect people to the beauty of the natural world.
